My mom always told me to watch my words carefully.
After all, language is a powerful tool (the pen is mightier than the sword and all that jazz)
I’m pretty sure she told me to watch watch what I say (repeatedly) so I would grow up to be a nice, sweet, kind, polite little Canadian boy…
But there was a side benefit she probably wasn’t counting on.
Watching my words also made me and my clients a lot more money.
There’s a Mark Twain quote I love that goes:
“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug”
So true, Mr. Twain. So true.
Especially when it comes to marketing.
And Double Especially when it comes to Facebook Ads.
Because the time you have to capture your prospects attention, get them interested in what you have to say, create desire, and get them to take action is TINY (like seconds, or even fractions of a second as someone is quickly scrolling through their newsfeed).
You gotta work fast to stop the scroll!
But the work is worth the reward.
In fact, I recently did an audit on an ad account and suggested making only one small tweak to the opening line.
The results?
A massive increase in the ads click through rate which meant more leads for the same cost and an increase in revenue of over 12k.
All from a tiny change in wordage.
Now that’s cool! Maybe in the future I’ll change my pricing structure to 12k per word 😉
