When NOT to Use Video

Alright so you know video is great.

  • It builds trust.
  • It “humanizes” your brand and business.
  • And it makes sales.

But is there ever a time to NOT use video?

(drumroll please….)

Yup!

There are 2 times actually. (And the first one may sound harsh so please understand I’m coming from a place of love when I say it :)

Reason #1 When NOT to use video

  • When you’re not good on video

If you’re not good on video, that’s totally ok! But then you probably shouldn’t be making videos just yet.

Don’t worry though. There are still plenty of other options available while you work on your Hollywood style skills. Things like:

  • Animation videos
  • Powerpoint/Keynote slide presentation videos
  • VSL’s (video sales letters)
  • Hiring someone else to do it

Here’s the thing though. Not being good on video today is no excuse to not working on getting better on video for tomorrow. (While I’m comfortable now… looking back at my first video’s aint a lotta fun!)

Reason #2 When NOT to use video

  • When the data says so

I love video (you know that by now). But there comes a time when you just can’t argue with the facts.

So whenever I launch a new Facebook Ad campaign I always, always, always compare a video to a good old fashion “image link post ad”.

And the funny thing is even with the best video, the best production, the best studio, lighting, audio, editing, etc etc etc

…. often the image wins!

“Come on Facebook, you claim to LOVE video and then throw the bone to the boring old image post? Wassup with that?!?!!”

So make sure to ABT (always be testing) and don’t argue with the data.

The market wants what the market wants and it’s your job to give it to them.
