The email I sent last week apparently rubbed a few people the wrong way. (Here’s the link in case you missed it: https://www.adamerhart.com/difference-winners-losers/)
First off, I know it rubbed a few people the wrong way because I track the usual email marketing stats like opens, clicks, and unsubscribes (always know your stats!) and that bad boy got nearly double the unsubscribes of the usual email.
But here’s the thing.
That’s actually a REALLY good thing.
And here’s why.
1. Be Yourself
First, I stated my position, planted my flag in the ground, and announced my firm belief that winning (at marketing, business, and life) requires going all in (aka “playing to win”)
Whereas losing, comes from simply playing safely, or watching from the sidelines (aka playing “not to lose”)
These are my beliefs (ingrained from years of experience) and I’ve got the data to backem up!
2. Attract or Repel
Some people read the email, wrote back “YES. I want to play to win!” and then took action doing what they knew they had to do.
Others read the email and thought “NOPE. It’s more comfortable sitting on the sidelines” and then hit unsubscribe.
Neither is right or wrong.
But for me, and for the people I want to attract, connect with, and work with… we believe that winning comes from taking action.
# Take away point for the week
Draw a line in the sand and don’t be afraid to say what you and your business stand for. When you do this 2 things magically start to happen.
- You’ll attract a LOT more of the right people to your business
- You’ll repel a LOT more of the wrong people away from your business
Now get out there and make it happen!
