Full confession coming:
I buy a LOT of courses.
Like a LOT.
Prefer to listen? Check out the podcast:
I’ve bought launch courses (which were outdated the minute I took them – and I don’t like the launch model anyway)
Webinar courses (they were ok but I find my market responds better to video training and PDF downloads)
Courses on how to build courses (Yes. This is true. This was actually a good one though and helped me build some great trainings)
And naturally, courses on marketing, copywriting, social media, advertising, funnels, email marketing, and on, and on, and on…
And that’s just courses…
And doesn’t even begin to include the coaches, consultants, masterminds (and even a degree in marketing) that I’ve invested in over the years.
So needless to say I’ve been subjected to a LOT of different strategies, tactics, tools, ideas, tips, etc
(Not to mention probably the most important point of all which is that I’ve cherry-picked the best of what I’ve learned and applied it in my clients and my businesses for some pretty amazing results)
So…
After years of doing, reading, applying, studying, executing and so on…
Certain patterns start to become clear.
Very clear.
CRYSTAL CLEAR in fact.
And one of those patterns is that 90% of your success will come down to a few very simple marketing strategies and principles…
And only 10% of your success from that fancy crap most “gurus” are trying to promote online (you know what I’m talking about… the 500 step funnels with the up-sells, down-sells, cross-sells, sell-your-soul, hyper-segmented-ridiculousness)
Those strategies are:
1) Traffic (a way to get your message in front of your ideal client)
2) Conversion (a way to turn traffic into leads and leads into clients)
3) And Retention (a way to continue building the relationship and increasing the lifetime value of your clients and business over time)
That’s it.
Sexy? Not really.
Effective? Darn right!
Nail those 3 (traffic, conversion, and retention) and you’ve got a 6 or 7-figure business.
Get any of them wrong and you’ve got struggle, stagnation, and the compulsion to hop back on the guru-train hoping that some fancy tactic will be the answer to your prayers.
As I’ve said many times before… simple works.
