Me and headphones don’t get along too well.
I’ve tried over ear, in-ear, noise cancelling, wired, Bluetooth, bass boosting, sound isolating, blue, green, black, pink – YOU NAME IT, I’ve tried it!
But no matter what pair I buy, they rarely ever seem to last more than a couple months (some a week, others up to 6 months sometimes if I’m lucky).
So what was it that all these headphones had in common?
They were all cheap. (With one exception. But I left them on an airplane…)
So sure, I saved a bit of money on the front end by buying $15-$30 headphones, but when I add up the cost (both time and money) of having to constantly replace my busted headphones – the cost is hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
Not to mention missing out on years of great sounding tunes by investing in a more solid pair that comes with a warranty (gasp!) and from a company that actually stands behind it’s products.
And while I’ve always believed in the “buy nice don’t buy twice” mantra, for some reason I just couldn’t get myself to apply this to headphones.
Until now.
I’ve learned my lesson and now have a great pair of headphones!
But not everyone gets this.
You know, the whole “buy nice don’t buy twice” thing.
Which is why I still hear about businesses hiring “budget friendly” agencies and consultants and then getting burned. Badly.
Sure, saving a little money up front sounds good, but that decision to save a couple hundred or even a couple thousand up front may end up doing far more damage than good in the long run. (Both in opportunity cost by not getting better results faster, and also by creating damaging campaigns)
I see this all time when I audit a new clients Facebook ad account and find it filled with terrible ads, terrible setup, terrible structure, which all lead to (surprise surprise) terrible performance!
The client comes to me because their last agency couldn’t deliver the goods.
And while my:
- Cost may be higher initially (I’m not a bottom of the barrel strategist)
- The results (1000% returns on investment can and do happen)
- Safety (I monitor things like a hawk)
- Peace of mind (your business, is my business) from knowing your marketing is being handled by someone who lives this stuff ends up freeing up the client to do what they do best.
Buy nice, don’t buy twice.
Your business/health/family/life are all too valuable.
