Quirky TV comedies featuring a strong female lead

I don’t watch a lot of TV.

That said. I do watch some TV. (I am somewhat normal after all)

Though I never got into Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad. I tried… but they just weren’t for me. I even watched past the point everyone told me I had to watch “past the point of” before I would get it and fall in love. Well… I never “got it”

So those shows clearly aren’t for me. So which one is?

(Embarrassing confession coming up)

Survivor.

I buy the season on iTunes and then my wife and I anxiously wait for each new episode to come out.

But here’s the thing…

  • Is Survivor good? Not really. (It’s quite possibly scripted and there’s nothing more to it than some people sitting on a beach and then doing mini-competitions to not get voted off)
  • Is it annoying? Kind of. (they pick an interesting group of people to say the least, designed for
  • Is it SUPER repetitive? Absolutely! (Every season is nearly identical albeit with different people – but they sometimes even bring back the same darn people!)

So then why do I watch it?!?!?!

Aside from the fact it’s kind of become a guilty tradition in our house the main reason I watch is because I’m a human behavior analyzing nerd.

I LOVE hearing what people say they’re going to do – then watching them act a completely different way.

It’s marketing gold I tell you. (And holds the key to why so many missed opportunities… you see there’s a missing ingredient in Survivor that you absolutely NEED if you want to succeed in business…. the answer’s in the PS line….)

Another place I get insights into the heart and minds of people?

The Netflix categories.

You see in an effort to make things easy to find and to see what resonates with people Netflix organizes shows in different categories like:

  • TV shows about marriage
  • Workplace TV shows
  • Quirky TV comedies featuring a strong female lead (Yup, talk about a descriptive category!)
  • And the infamous “Because you watched ________________” section which gives you a list of others you just might enjoy based off previous selections

Your homework for the weekend?

  1. Dive into Netflix and see what’s popular “these days”. The odds are good that you’ll find something in there to create a blog post, a podcast, a video, or even an email about which will help you build trust, authenticity, and “humanize” your brand.
(And you know as well as I do by now that people like to do business with people and NOT faceless corporations)
  2. Then… head on over to secure a spot on the waitlist to be the first to know when this goldmine goes live:
