Traffic, Conversion, and Retention

It’s Monday! And I know you’ve got a busy week ahead of you so I’m going to keep this short and sweet.

I did a LOT of thinking and strategizing over this last weekend (we’re talking pages of notes, strategy calls, and whiteboard sessions not even a doctor could read).

But what it left me with was some clarity on a simple concept I want to share with you which I KNOW will save you a ton of time, heartache, and money.

How do I know? Because I’ve been there before. As have many of my clients, students, and subscribers… because they tell me. (Yup, I read and respond to every single email I get even today)

So here’s the thing.

A while back I was working on a theory and presented it to DuctTape Marketing which they published on their site (Here’s a link to the article: http://snip.ly/9gtus). I knew it was solid but I had no idea just how solid it really was until I tried to break it! (Yup, a good strategist is ALWAYS looking for the underlying principles that guide results)

But the thing is I couldn’t break it. No matter how I tried to approach it.

It was just too solid a theory.

So here it goes:

To generate leads and grow your business you need to focus on 3 things, and in a VERY specific order.

Do them all and you’ll do good.

Do them all in specific order and you’ll do great.

Do them all in a specific order and ensure each one gets paid the respect it deserves and you’ll do better than you ever thought possible.

Here are the steps in their exact order with a tiny blurb on each:

Traffic – the first thing you need to ask is “does everyone who could buy from me know I exist?”… If the answer is no, you’ve got a traffic problem. Start here.
Conversion – the next question is “do those that visit my site/page/store/cart/etc take action (ie sign up, buy, call, click, etc)”… If the answer is no, you’ve got a conversion problem. Let’s work on this next.
Retention – the final question is “of those who take action, do they stay, refer, buy more”… if not, you’ve got a retention problem. Work on this last for a business with longevity and profits.

Here’s the thing. Once you identify which stage you need the most help with marketing becomes VERY easy. So let me ask you, which step do you need the most help with? Hit reply and let me know (T, C, or R) and I’ll make sure to create some content on that to help you out.
