Every successful person knows they need to have goals. Goals give us direction, purpose, and something to shoot for. But is having a goal enough?
The answer is no. Simply having goals isn’t enough to ensure their success.
The statistics are pretty dismal, but they do paint an accurate picture of what we see around us.
- 83% of people do not have goals. These are the people that are either unaware there is something better out there for them, or they simply don’t understand the power in progress, forging ahead, and creating a better tomorrow. This is the vast majority of the population.
- 14% of people have a goal in their mind. These are the people that know goals are important and are at least vaguely aware of something they would like to have, see, or do.
- 3% of people have written goals. These are the power players. They are the ones with a clear vision of what they want to accomplish, and a written plan to go out and get it.
There’s a famous Harvard study about the students that had written goals and those that didn’t. What they found was that the 3% of students that had clearly defined goals written down went on to earn ten times as much as the other 97% of the class combined!
The sad thing is that writing down your goals is one of the easiest things you can do. It can take as little as a few minutes, and yet has the power to dramatically improve the quality of your life.
A goal that isn’t written down is just a dream.
If you’re reading my blog then it’s my belief that you’re a high achiever, and in the top 3%, so you owe it to yourself to write down your goals.
