There’s a restaurant here in my home town that I eat at. A lot. (I even have a regular booth… though it’s yet to be engraved with me name)
(Fun Fact: Back when I was working as a corporate jet captain and living in Cairo, Egypt I ate at the JW Marriott steak house so many times they actually put an engraved plaque on a table with my name on it. Take that arteries!)
Anyway one of my all time faves at my local hot spot here back on the west coast of Canada is their fish tacos. Fresh sockeye salmon, cod, jalapeno peppers, some kind of purple cabbage slaw… delicious!
But recently…
They changed the recipe to just have cod and no sockeye salmon… nixed the jalapeno peppers for a spicy sauce, and added a bit more breading to the fish.
At first I was afraid. I was petrified. I kept thinking tacos without jalapeno peppers, what an awful crime!
But you know what? They’re actually pretty darn good. Maybe even… dare I say… better?
My point is this.
Things change.
And often we don’t have a whole lotta control over it (how we react and respond of course we DO have full control of)
And so it goes with the current state of marketing your business online.
What got you here, won’t get you there.
Both in regards to adapting and evolving, but also because many of the tools, tactics, and strategies that used to work have vanished (anyone remember myspace?) and who knows what tomorrow will bring!
So let me make a bold prediction…
We’ve got about 24 months left to capitalize on how everything is being done now (ie taking advantage of complicated funnels, direct selling ads, and a marketplace that while skeptical… still at least wants to believe)
After that?
A new dawn. A new age. And a new more authentic time.
One where authenticity, transparency, relevance, and authority will become mandatory keys to success.
Much like a website is pretty much a necessity to do business today, authority will be necessary to do business tomorrow. (And I’ve got studies to back this up)
